This relay has improved technology, but they also give engine cutting out problems so its really hard to tell. Greetings, Martin. Would you recommend changing the relay first or changing the sensors?

The 2001-and older have a different relay - I believe it's numbered 180 - for the glow plugs in the relay panel (p/n 038 911 253). On 2002 and newer, threre's a solid-state controller (p/n 038 907 281 C) that's on the front of the firewall. It's tucked up under the dash on the drivers side. You have to be a contortionist to get to it.
